Best Buy launches first Palm Pre marketing page
The folks over at Palm’s ad agency Edelman, are clearly staying right on top of the Palm Pre rumor mill. In the past week, Geek.com had a story about the Pre’s wireless battery charger arriving at Best Buy on June 7th and over at Precentral’s forum, there are comments about Sprint and Palm sending email invitations to a contest all about winning a Pre.
In other news Treonauts has a story about Best Buy’s Palm Pre marketing page. We did some checking and found Best Buy’s Pre page and then drove to our local Best Buy mobile store and asked a friend behind the counter what was happening. She confirmed that employees were being trained on the Palm Pre specifications and accessories. She also said that the accessories were scheduled to arrive between June 5 and June 10. When we asked what she knew about the Palm Pre smartphone launch date–her comment was that talking specifically about that product was not worth the grief from corporate management.
Boy Genius Report claims that Bell Canada will be getting their first shipment in August. BGR also showed photos of the Palm Pre boxes which originally came from a Chinese website.

Nokia unveils its cheapest 3G phone, the 2730 Classic
The 7020 has an external display that is not seen until it is tapped twice, or when a call or message is received. Internally, you’ll find a suite of Nokia applications, with Facebook, MySpace and YouTube already bookmarked. Rounding out the 7020 are Opera Mini, the mobile web browser, an MP3 player and FM radio, plus a 2 megapixel camera. It will go for $122 during the 4th quarter, 2009.
Mobile Burn tells us that the 2720 fold was “designed for emerging rural phone markets” and includes “Nokia Life Tools and Ovi Mail, two applications created by Nokia for people without personal computer access.” The Education service of Nokia Life Tools helps students increase their grasp of the English language, by displaying information simultaneously in two languages. The goal is to increase general knowledge of their local area, as well as the rest of the world. Life Tools also provides innovative agricultural information to assist farmers and others in rural areas.
Microsoft My Phone available to everyone
Back in February Microsoft slipped a bit and prematurely made its new My Phone service live. Now it’s officially available to everyone.
When I was using a Windows Mobile phone as my primary device I used to pay for a hosted Exchange service at 4smartphone. Then I moved to Google Sync since I also use an iPhone and other devices. The process was a bit involved but it was worth it for me.
For the everyday Windows Mobile user, though, this service is a no brainer since you just have to install the My Phone service on your phone and then Microsoft takes care of the rest. If you lose your phone in the future or want to make changes to your information from a web-based interface, My Phone will deliver what you need.

Archos 2 and Archos 4 Back to Flash Basics
The last non PMP and flash based player Archos released was the 105. I have one sitting around the office but never stirred up enough gumption to write a review on it since I couldn’t stop yawning every time I used it. Not that it was bad, just nothing exciting and a bit out of date even at its release. This time around we hope that its different. At the very lease it has a nice new modern design and less clunky like the older generation Archos players.
The Archos 2 will follow the 104 and 105 with a simple candy bar form factor, sporting a 1.8” 128x160 pixel screen. This will come in 4GB and 8GB sizes. The Archos 4 is a bit more elusive at this time since we don’t have pics yet- but this will be a 4” flash player coming in 16GB and 32GB capacities. Could Archos be killing off their hard drive models? Likely not, but it appears that they are adding a healthy mix of flash.
